Preparing your Hot Tub for a Party
You have a hot tub and an opportunity for a party. You don’t want to miss this!
But how do you prepare the water to be sparkling, clean and inviting?
Ideally, you have given yourself enough time to get the tub in order before the party.
Where do we start? This will depend on the current state of the water in the hot tub.
How long has it been there?
Is it cloudy? Is it dirty?
Does it look inviting?
If the water has been in the hot tub for a while or its quality is not up to par, you may want to change it. The water and filters will likely have to deal with and filter out more contamination than usual during the party, so it is important to prepare the water ahead of time.
We should flush the hidden pipework and plumbing to clean it if it’s been a while since it was last done. This will ensure we have the best possible experience when we use the hot tub. Let’s break this down into a few simple steps.
- Remove the filters and any floating sponges, chemical dispensers etc.
- Turn the jets on to maximum, or the cleaning cycle if available and add the liquid or gel cleaner.
- Remove any residual grime or film by wiping the tub inside.
- Before draining/pumping out the water, turn off the jets and the mains isolator
- Adding fresh water to the hot tub once it has been completely drained and sponged out is the next step.
- Run the hose into the filter housing. This helps to prevent any airlocks in the system by filling the pipework first. An air lock occurs when air is trapped in the plumbing lines, preventing water from flowing properly. You may see an error message “flow” if this is the case. Contact your dealer if you have any questions.
- When fitting the filters make sure they are new high-quality ones or that your previous filters have been thoroughly cleaned and dried.
- The hot tub water should be filled to the point where it is just above the highest jets by 30-50 mm or to the level recommended by the manufacturer.
- Test strips should be used to test the water and due to the fact that the water is mains tap water, it is necessary to boost the chlorine levels.
- Ensure the water in your hot tub reaches normal temperature before balancing alkalinity and PH.
- It is important to maintain clean floors around the hot tub in order to reduce the possibility of treading contamination.
Plus it’s always a good idea to add a floating sponge or two to help collect any remaining contaminants.
